Aug. 2002 World Computer Bridge Championship
The 6th World Computer Bridge Championship was held August 23-28, 2002 as part of WBF's World Bridge Championships in Montreal. This year's World Computer Bridge Championship was supported by the ACBL. Al Levy, a member of the ACBL Board of Directors, is the creator of the World Computer Bridge Championship and acted as the organizer and coordinator of this year's event.

Seven computer programs from around the world competed in the 6th ACBL World Computer Bridge Championship.

  • Blue Chip Bridge (Great Britain), Mike Wittaker & Ian Trackman, Blue Chip Ltd.
  • GIB (U.S.), Matt Ginsberg, University of Oregon.
  • Jack (The Netherlands), Hans Kuijk.
  • Meadowlark Bridge (U.S.), Rodney Ludwig & David Walker, Meadowlark Software.
  • Micro Bridge (Japan), Tomio Uchida & Yumiko Uchida.
  • Q-Plus Bridge (Germany), Johannes Leber, Q Plus Software.
  • WBridge5 (France), Yves Costel

Results (2002 Montreal)
The event started with the seven participants playing a 20-board round robin. The top four programs from the round robin played a 48-board semifinal match and the winners played a 64-board final.

Comments: GIB would have qualified for the semifinals but chose to withdraw from the tournament during the last round robin match. In the last round, Jack was bye, GIB had no chance to become a top finisher, and GIB crashed board by board against Meadowlark. Mysterious behavior.
